so with halloween finally over, the stores are starting to stock up for christmas. and while i feel bad for thanksgiving because it's completely skipped over, i love seeing the jolly-good displays.as i made my way through the local craft store yesterday, the toddler found this pre-baked gingerbread house boxed kit. i thought it was quite adorable and that it'd be a great family time project.
i, of course, purchased it right away knowing that evening was going to be a fun time experience for all. especially since this was going to be everyone's first time making a gingerbread house.
cut to the evening and our final project. the construction took longer than i expected. and we ran into a couple glitches here and there. and. it didn't turn out *exactly* like the picture in the box. but i do think it sure came close. overall, i think it looks as good as i imagined it would. good times. good times.
wait for it.

Oh my gosh! That looks soooo good! You did a great job on it. I LOVE gingerbread! Yummo!
That is beautiful! I'm so glad I yelled at you, it was all worth it. And now, I want to eat a gingerbread house. Darn you WINN!
So it has a...um...sun roof! Yes! And f@&K the box. If you want the one on the box, eat the box.* Yours was made with love and character.
This is why I love your blog.
*evil laugh that I just told your readers to eat box...
Wow - family night AND a metaphorical representation of the current mortgage and housing situation - you are wicked cool. :)
The only thing it needs....
Is bacon.
Yum!!!
it came out great. I remember attempting to make one as a child...it fell down. LOL
Great job. That puts me in the Christmas mood:0)
Hmm, I suggest you get a graham cracker and pipe the word CONDEMNED BY THE CITY OF WINN and glue it to the front.
Just kidding! This makes me want to buy a gingerbread house so my kids can make a mess! They would have a ball.
What fun. I did one years ago with my kids and we had a blast!
yay! I'm so excited for the holidays!
HAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA
halarious!
i bought a box kit and i didnt like it, this year i will try to buy everything seperate.
I so think like you. I buy things like that with visions of laughter and happy togetherness. The end result is typically less than picture perfect but leaves you with funny stories to share...long after the frustration wears off. :) I love the way you decorate, by the way.
I think it turned out great! A friend of mine does one every year. When our kids were younger, she always had a little get together with a few of the kids in the neighborhood for a dismantling party, which the kids seemed to enjoy as much as making it -- and just the anticipation through the season of waiting for the day to dismantle it and eat it seemed to create just as much excitement as Christmas morning -- or almost as much.
Unfortunately, this is what my loving wife thought my creation would look like. To her dismay, my icicles were dazzling.
Bacon rules.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
um. i can't even bring myself to buy one of those, because i know mine would suck, and it would just bother me....
Dude, you added another picture. That. Is. Awesome.
Very cute!
We made one of those last year and had a ball.
It didn't turn out quite as pictured either.
Too funny! I love it! :)
lol they make it look soooo easy
Add some chocolate and you will have sm..doors smores, doores
We make - well assemble (make is the trip to the store to buy the kit) on Christmas Eve Day - helps to channel my kids energy from the anticipation - so buy another kit and keep it in reserve!

omg, hahaha, I love the help written in frosting.
I think it turned out pretty good! The photos on the box were probably Photoshopped anyway! Can I have a bite?! :)
there will be no gold party in THAT house.
Lemme guess...most of the candy got eaten during the process. I should try this with my kids to see what they do. I imagine they will be dragging all sorts of stuff out of the cabinet to put on it. The boy will somehow make a robot on it within the first 10 minutes before loosing interest while baby girl continues on with it loooonnng after it was "done". Eventually she will put paint on it. yay! memories!
I am about to do a post on this activity myself...I love the "HELP"! I will add that to mine this year, with your permission of course...
Wow...I am waaaaaay at the bottom of the comment board here, I shall work hard to be first, or at least second, or third...from now on...ahhhhh...
I like ... they are my friend. What??
OK, so my first post did not post, so I am all deflated and have been voided of anything witty to say...other than I too will be exploring this great gingerbread activity on my blog soon, and you will soon not feel alone in your endeavor...if you felt alone at all, I am just assuming...
Oh, you have to approve the comments...duh...gingerbread gingerbread gingerbread
Wow! We tried to make a gingerbread house at our office last year, and I can safely say it looked nothing like yours. Oh well...we had fun making it nonetheless.
