i don't like the beach because of the sand. so it obviously makes sense for me to buy sand by the bag.

these are my garage sale chronicles - summer supplements. it's where i show you what i bought. and how said item was used for summertime fun. because i know you're all so curious about my life. bunch o' stalkers.

today: there's no need to avoid this yellow sand.

items purchased: 14 - 2lb bags of art sand.

the story: once during this past school year, li'l tot came home with a tiny tube of sand art. she explained the intricate procedure as to how she created the project. and then she requested we work on some of our own sand art. my answer was pretty simple: one day. (in your dreams.)

well last week, i happened upon a teacher's garage sale. she had craft supplies out the wazoo. (wazoo. that'd be french for... garage.) there was paint. glue. glitter. craft sticks. stickers. and behold. there was sand. lots of sand. colorful sand. sand i wish hadn't been there.

alas. it sat there calling my name. mommy! mommy! first of all. i was shocked sand could talk. and secondly, hey. i figure i might could be on oprah with talking sand. so. i bought a bag. or two. or fourteen. and teacher lady gave me a couple of wee teeny funnels.

when i got home, i called li'l tot and baby out to see what i had. oh the joy in their faces when they saw the sand. and oh the fear in my face when i realized those wee teeny funnels weren't going to do anything for me. or my kitchen floor.

so i immediately introduced the girls to thinking outside the box. and i had them create sand art - inside their sand box. word.

cost for item: 25cents/bag.

your reaction: you think i'm the coolest mom around. and you wish you were one of my kids. (your reaction will never change. so you can skip this part come next week.)

Being French and all I know for a fact that wazoo does NOT mean garage...it's much grosser. It means....garbage.

Great find (for your kids). I don't enjoy sand in the house either. I was secretly happy when my girls stepped in it for the first time and didn't like it. So what if my girls are freaks...at least my floors are clean! I would have loved to go to a teacher's garage sale though. Have a great weekend!

OMG! I am sooo jealous on that find!

I LOVED SAND ART WHEN I WAS LITTLE!

But being all boring and grown up, I totally see the pain in the behind that it is.

So your idea of putting the sand in the sandbox = genius. Seriously. Mad props!

I only got to make sand art once, and it was horribly traumatic. I carefully constructed my beautiful layers, and proudly showed it to my friend. She promptly said "Here, this will make it cooler!" and shook it. She SHOOK my sand art. Do you know what that does to the pretty layers? It demolishes them! To this day, no more sand art for me.

You are very brave. I hate the stuff. It winds up all over even when it starts in the sandbox. (Shudder) Happy SITS Saturday. ;)

i was sucked in by the title because i am currently AT the beach and everything i own contains at least 6 lbs of sand now. i don't think sand art will be making it's way into my life unless, when we return home today, i find enough in ava's fat rolls (that's my 9 month old michelin man baby.....not being mean about anyone here!) to warrant an activity or three. looks like fun though, and God bless some garage sales! (or wazoo sales.... i'm trying to be all sophisticated and "french" now)

Happy kids - love. And all it took was some colored sand. I gotta remember that.

First off, I'm calling Oprah NOW, talking sand, amazing! Secondly @Dee, MOONsand is from the devil, and it's so appropriately titled- that's where it always winds up at my house.

Haha. I DO think you're the coolest mom. Ever. This is coming from a mom who says "That's rad" to her 13-year-old, though. So, yeah.

Sand is fun. Especially when it's not in the carpet. Or up your nose.

What a find. Definitely the coolest mom of all time!

That's brilliant actually and I'll bet the kids thought you were the coolest Mom on the block. You don't have a very long window of time to impress them like this, so it's good you're taking advantage of it.

I know it's a mess, even outside, but you ROCK for giving your kidlets the fun :)

You're not only the coolest mom around, you're the smartest - putting the sand OUTSIDE!! I'm not even remotely French altho I took French class once... Wazoo means a whole lotta and bootie. As in, "I had bugs out the wazoo on the 4th of July." Not that bugs were coming out the wazoo but that there were A LOT OF THEM.
