wow. just. wow. can I come with you to smack them? This is as bad as putting girls in math assistance classes because they are girls. No, they don't do that, but can you imagine? Because this IS based on how kids look. If *I* answered that way, they would pause and wonder, and probably follow up with a question, like, oh, did she just LEARN another language? A-moles. same thing with my daughter. I truthfully write "other language" as her first language and BAM...ESOL designation. Daughter #1 - still hasn't tested out of it....(even though she clearly reads well above grade level and speaks English fluently. SOmething about her writing not being able to test her out.) I called the ESOL coordinator and asked that Daughter #2 not be included. Son...not going to say any other language is spoken at home. He's just American English all the way.
